it promptly; supervisors within a week. We keep records for compliance as well.
Training for Health and Safety
Representatives
- HSRs require foundational understanding of occupational health and safety
- Ministry of Labour and partners offer online voluntary basic training for HSRs
- Covers OHSA duties, workplace parties' rights and responsibilities, hazard control, and more
- Includes RACE methodology for hazard recognition, assessment, control, and evaluation
- Also covers health and safety resources available to workplace parties

Training for Joint Health and
Safety Committees
- Workplaces with 20+ employees must have a JHSC
- Committee members must meet OHSA standards
- 2 members (1 worker, 1 manager) must be health and safety certified
- Certification requires completing 2 parts of training: Basic and Hazard-Specific
- All certified members must complete refresher training every 3 years
- Find approved providers for certification and refresher training at the Ministry of Labour.

The right to be free from penalty
Employer cannot penalize employee for:
- Taking leave
- Planning to take leave
- Being eligible to take leave
- Asking questions about leave
"Reprisal" occurs when the employer punishes or threatens to punish employee for doing these things.
The right to reinstatement
- The person is Entitled to the same job or a comparable job if the old job is gone
- Must be paid at least pre-leave wage
- If wage increased during leave, must receive higher wage upon return
- Employee not entitled to reinstatement if dismissed for unrelated reasons.

Act (AODA)
- The AODA is a law in Ontario that aims to remove barriers for people with disabilities.
- It applies to organizations in public, private, and non-profit sectors and all types of employees.
- The AODA has established five standards to recognize five areas of daily life.
- The IASR includes general requirements such as developing an accessibility policy and providing accessibility training.
- The AODA makes hiring and employment practices more accessible for people with disabilities.
- Violating the AODA can result in monetary penalties up to $100,000 for corporations and $50,000 for individuals or unincorporated organizations.
